Hi everyone,

To begin with, the chapter “The Organizational Context: Strategy, Structure and Culture” covered several topics and I want to discuss about few important topics. Firstly, the Strategic management plays a vital role, “Strategic Management is the science of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that enable an organization to achieve its objectives”. It mainly consists of few elements such as:

  • Developing Vision statements and mission statements
  • Formulating, implementing and evaluating
  • Making cross-functional decisions
  • Achieving objectives

Later I consider TOWS matrix, as “It is a useful way to see the links between projects and an organizations strategic choices”. The acronym for TOWS is” Threats-opportunities, weakness-strengths”. Besides Managing stakeholders is equally important irrespective to the organizational structure. The three types of organizational structures are:

  • Functional organizations
  • Project organizations
  • Matrix organizations

The above-mentioned organizational structure have its own pros’, con’s, and PMO (Project Management office) will plan accordingly. “PMO is defined as a centralized unit within an organization or department that oversees or improves the management of projects. There are three forms of PMO’s which depends on the degree control which should be supportive, controlling and Directive.

Finally, Organization culture acts a key variable for making the project successful. So, organizational culture and project management should be considered together. There are few aspects to be considered by the project manager such as:

  • Department interaction
  • Employee commitment to goals
  • Project Planning and
  • Performance evaluation

After going through the topics mentioned in this chapter, I believe strategic management acts as a vital ingredient for meeting projects end goal. It mainly deals with other possibilities or changes in line of activity etc. Project is nothing but implementing that strategy, so i felt strategic management as an initial step. Later after considering the hierarchy graph, an organization structure helped to understand the flow of work or decisions, responsibilities etc. During an implementation stage, there will be certain amount of loss in an efficiency and teamwork plays a vital role. In this modern era, majority of multinational companies deal with employees from entire world and in such cases organization behavior is so important.

 So, by considering these factors any organization can adapt or change their way of doing actions to achieve better results irrespective to their line of activity.
